A doctor of Osteopathy is a fully licensed physician who has spent identical time in medical school and residency as their MD counterparts.  Both must pass State licensing examinations in order to practice medicine and in many States, the exams are the same.

Differences between DOs and MDs start to appear within their medical training.  Osteopaths emphasize preventive medicine, focus on body structure, Osteopathic manipulation.  The majority of Osteopaths are in General/Family Practice.
